WELLINGTON COUNTY – A recent move from Wellington County council aiming to address the housing gap came to the dismay of an advocacy group for the Continuum of Care project, where funds were originally headed.
A letter to come before council Thursday expresses “deep disappointment” and concern over council’s decision to abandon the project.
Written by Chair Joanne Weiler with the support of the entirety of the Continuum of Care Advocacy Group, the letter explains many local seniors are in need of a downsize, that would free up housing for younger families.
Others, it says, face financial constraints and require affordable housing options tailored to seniors.
The group is requesting the project be re-opened, complete with community engagement.
“The need is urgent,” and “the opportunity remains,” the letter reads.
The document will be before county council at the meeting for correspondence.
