NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP
WELLINGTON NORTH – On Monday, June 23, Wellington North Council welcomed the Wellington Heights Secondary School Special Olympics Bocce Team to its meeting to recognize the team for winning the gold medal at the 2025 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships.
The team travelled to Ottawa from June 2-5 for the event, winning seven of their eight games over two days of competition.
Team members include Austin LaCombe, Macey McDermott, Wyatt Smaglinski, Nicholas Duxbury, peer helper Jayden Needham, and coaches Brittany Heffernan and Christine Chambers.
“On behalf of Wellington North Council, staff and residents, I extend our congratulations to the Wellington Heights Bocce Team,” said Mayor Andy Lennox. “To win a provincial championship is no easy feat, and you should be proud of your accomplishment. You’re great representatives of Wellington North, and your community is proud of you.”
