FERGUS – As part of the Fergus Scottish Festival’s upcoming 80th Anniversary celebrations, the festival has introduced a new Festival and Highland Games Hall of Fame.
In a news release, the Festival says there will be two levels of recognition – Fearless Leader, recognizing past presidents of the Festival, and Outstanding Contributor, acknowledging those individuals who have contributed significantly to the Festival and organization. Only individual persons are eligible for nomination.
“The Festival would not be celebrating 80 years without the significant contributions of our volunteers, partners, and supporters,” says Elizabeth Bender, executive director of the Festival, adding, “It is wonderful to have a chance to acknowledge their contributions.”
Inductees will be announced each spring and recognition will take place at the Festival.
“The idea of a Hall of Fame Recognition Program has been something the Board has thought about for many years,” says Matthew Bennett-Monty, President of the Festival. “With the 80th Anniversary celebrations in full swing, the timing was right to move forward with this new program.” Bennett-Monty added that “for 2025, in honour of our 80th Anniversary, the Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the first inductee into the Hall of Fame Outstanding Contributor category is Festival founder, Alex Robertson.”
