GUELPH – Guelph Police is investigating after a Guelph resident lost $16,000 to a telephone scam.
Police say the victim received a phone call phone call from someone claiming to be an employee of Rogers, offering them a savings of $65 a month on their monthly bill.
Shortly after the victim received a second phone call from someone claiming to work for RBC, calling to advise that the victim’s credit cards had been compromised and that they would be sending an agent out to collect the compromised cards.
Police say two days later a male, described as a brown male, approximately 5’7ft, 30’s, medium build, with a beard and moustache attended to the complainant’s house, and collected his credit cards.
The victim attended his local RBC to get new credit cards, only to find they had been a victim of a scam and had been defrauded $16,000. The credit cards had been used at several businesses around the city.
