ROCKWOOD – The final Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in Wellington County’s pilot programme are set to go live in Rockwood this Wednesday (July 16th).
In a media release, the County says this will be the seventh and final ASE location implemented as part of Wellington County’s one-year pilot programme aimed at reducing speeding and improving road safety in school and Community Safety Zones.
“The cameras will be located on Wellington Road 27 (Main Street North) between Rockmosa Drive and Edgar Bonner Avenue. The site was chosen based on traffic data analysis and safety reviews conducted as part of the County’s Road Master Action Plan,” the County said in the media release.
ASE cameras are placed in designated Community Safety Zones to encourage drivers to adhere to the posted speed limits and enhance overall road safety. Warning signs installed in advance of activation will be replaced with “Camera In Use” signs once the cameras are live.
Since launching in January, the County says the pilot programme has already started to change driver behaviour and create safer streets throughout the County.
“Whether you’re walking to school, biking to the park, or just crossing the street, everyone deserves to feel safe on our roads,” said Gregg Davidson, Roads Committee Chair. “This technology is helping us move closer to that goal in selected school zones.”
