CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington is in the early stages of looking to bring a new recreation facility to the township.
At Monday’s meeting, council approved the township’s final Parks and Recreation Master Plan and also expressed their support for a study on a new Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) in the township.
Councillor Jennifer Adams shared her support for the study.
In a report to council by Pat Newson, the township’s managing director of community services, said the engagement results clearly demonstrate strong community support for incorporating an indoor walking track into a future indoor recreation facility.
In the online survey, the most desired amenities for a new indoor facility were:
- Walking Track – 61%
- Gymnasium – 37%
- Pickleball Courts – 30%
- Hosting Events – 24%
- Turf Field – 23%
“This reflects the community’s pressing need for safe, year-round walking options, especially for seniors and parents with strollers, and track sports. The feedback strongly advocates for continued planning and investment in an indoor turf recreation facility. Such a facility should be designed to be flexible, inclusive, and capable of accommodating diverse recreational needs in Centre Wellington, both now and in the future,” the report said.
Following council approval, the final 2025 Parks and Recreation Plan will be implemented through an action-oriented approach, ensuring that community needs are prioritized and financial resources are allocated appropriately.
