A proposal has been made to install LiveBarn, an online service that streams youth amateur sports online.
At it’s meeting Monday night, Wellington North Council debated signing the by-law authorizing a 3 year agreement to install the streaming service at the Mount Forest & District Sports Complex along with the Arthur Arena.
Concerns were raised around the issue of privacy. Manager of Recreation, Community & Economic Development, Mandy Jones was asked about a recent story where children at summer camps in Waterloo Region were streamed online without permission.
In a statement provided by LiveBarn, Jones said “LiveBarn is aware of the situation in Waterloo and Kitchener and is actively investigating. We take privacy very seriously and we intervened immediately once we were notified.”
Ultimately, council decided to delay the vote until they can get more information. The next Wellington North Council meeting is August 11th.
