NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(PUSLINCH TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a Puslinch resident after they decided to rehome a wild raven.
On July 29, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a call involving a captured raven out of a neighbourhood tree.
It is reported that the complainant heard a bird in distress and upon reviewing their doorbell camera footage, they realized the accused entered their property, grabbed a raven out of their tree by the legs, put it in their vehicle and quickly departed. The complainant suggested that prior to the incident, the accused took interest in the raven and would frequently come onto their property to see it. The raven was later observed outside, covered in an unknown substance, preventing it from flying. Ministry of Natural Resources was consulted. After being cleaned up, the bird was no longer in distress and released.
As a result of the investigation, a 70-year-old from Puslinch has been charged under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act with the following offence:
- Unlawfully keep live specially protected wildlife
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court – Guelph, at a later date.
