NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge two individuals with four offences, in connection with a vehicle fire.
On July 29, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP, alongside local emergency services responded to a report of a vehicle that had veered off Jones Baseline, just south of Arthur, later landing into a nearby ditch, and subsequently becoming engulfed in flames.
When emergency services arrived on scene, it was determined that the driver had escaped from the vehicle prior to it catching fire, and there were no other occupants or vehicles involved. The driver was treated as a precaution by EMS and did not require to attend hospital.
As a result of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old from Guelph is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Careless Driving
- Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
Additionally, the owner of the vehicle, a 27-year-old from Guelph, who later arrived on scene, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act, and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:
- Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance
- Permit person with improper licence to drive motor vehicle
Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court – Guelph at a later date.
