FERGUS – It was an exciting S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night on August 9th, during the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games when the Bay City Rollers took the main stage as part of the weekend’s 80th celebrations.
The band includes Stuart “Woody” Wood, the only original member of the band, along with Ian Thomson, Mikey Smith, Jamie McGrory and John McLaughlin.
Prior to the Bay City Rollers Fergus show, they’d played a performance in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. The band talked to the Grand at 101 on Friday, after a brief soundcheck, about what it meant to them to be in Canada, which for Mikey Smith, was a first time experience.
Their biggest surprise about arriving in Fergus? The site of all the tartans around town and on the festival grounds.
Fans were thrilled to sing along to the band’s classic hits, like “Bye, Bye Baby” and “Saturday Night,” but also to hear their newest release, “Rollers Forever,” which will be part of the band’s musical production of the same name. The classic songs are more than just nostalgic for the fans in a positive way, but also for Woody and his bandmates too.

The band has now returned to Scotland and will be premiering their new musical “Rollers Forever” making it’s debut in Glasgow this month. They left fans in Fergus with a message that they’d like to come back again. Haste ye back, Bay City Rollers.
