GUELPH – A Guelph man arrested in June after police seized $18,000 worth of drugs has been rearrested on new drug charges.
Earlier this summer, members of the Guelph Police Service received information about a man trafficking controlled substances to vulnerable persons in the downtown area.
A search warrant was obtained and last week police executed the warrant at a north-end seniors’ apartment complex. Quantities of fentanyl, Hydromorphone and drug paraphernalia were seized, as well as more than $1,600 in cash and a firefighter’s badge determined to be stolen.
A 65-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.
The man had been arrested on similar charges in June after police executed a warrant at the same apartment and seized fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and three replica firearms. He spent several days in custody before being released on bail.
“We will not tolerate illegal behavior that jeopardizes the safety of our citizens,” said Chief of Police Gord Cobey. “We will continue to do our part to ensure those seeking to profit from these dangerous drugs are held accountable for their actions.”
