Guelph – The Guelph Police Service is investigating after receiving a report of a distraction theft that had occurred in the East end of the city.
Thursday afternoon at approximately 1:30 PM, the victim was walking in the area of Starwood Drive and Watson Parkway North, when she was approached by a white four-door SUV. Inside the vehicle were a male driver and a female occupant. The female occupant called out to the victim, stating it was her mother’s birthday and that she was giving out gold to celebrate. The victim approached the vehicle, where the female occupant placed a white cloth in their hand and several gold items.
After the conversation, the vehicle left, and the victim noticed that her bangle bracelets had been taken off her wrists when the white cloth had been placed over her hands. The bangles are described as 22k gold, featuring a diamond-shaped pattern, and are valued at $6,000.
The male driver was described as heavyset and approximately 40 years old. The female occupant was described as South Asian, approximately 30 to 40 years old, with short hair. No license plate or vehicle make was obtained.
