WELLINGTON NORTH – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are warning residents about online fraud after a local resident fell victim.
On August 18, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Wellington OPP received a report from an Arthur resident who lost $500,000 in an online investment scam. The victim began to invest with an online investment firm, in February of this year. By August, the victim had invested half a million dollars. When the victim requested to cash out their investment, the fraudster suddenly disappeared – phone numbers were no longer in service, and emails went unanswered.
