ERIN-The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning the public following a report of a scam targeting local residents.
On August 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Wellington OPP received a report of an attempted fraud, which took place at a residence in Erin. An unknown suspect, posing as an agent from the Canada Revenue Agency, attended the home and presented the complainant a letter claiming that a family member had a company registered in their name and owed $25,000 in taxes.
Fortunately, the complainant quickly recognized the fraudulent nature of the claim, declined to engage with the suspect, asked them to leave the property, and contacted police.
The Wellington County OPP encourages the public to stay educated and informed to reduce the risk of being a victim of fraud.
