FERGUS – The Ontario government is investing $6.8 million in water infrastructure to help build up to 3,088 new homes in Centre Wellington. The funding, delivered through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, will support an extension of services to the South Fergus area—identified as a key growth zone.
Local MPP Joseph Racinsky says the investment reflects strong provincial-municipal partnerships aimed at tackling the housing crisis. Mayor Shawn Watters called the funding “critical,” noting it will help create a more connected, diverse community.
The project is part of the broader Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, which has supported the potential development of 800,000 homes across Ontario. It’s also tied to the province’s long-term infrastructure plan, which includes more than $200 billion in investments to support housing, transit, and other core services.
The funding is expected to boost both housing supply and local economic growth.
