Centre Wellington council is considering a zoning amendment for 6949 Wellington Road 7 to allow AWF Farm Drainage to operate a maintenance shop on the property. The land, currently zoned for agriculture and environmental protection, would be reclassified to permit agriculture-related industrial use.
While the proposed development avoids environmentally sensitive areas, nearby residents raised concerns at this week’s council meeting. Mapleton resident Heather Smith questioned the lack of notification to Alma residents and the type of fuel that would be stored on site.
Robert Stovel, the buyer’s legal representative, said fuel would only be used for AWF’s own equipment.
Council staff will prepare a report and return with recommendations at a future meeting.
