GUELPH – A Guelph man is charged with attempted murder after an 80-year-old woman was severely injured downtown Guelph Sunday morning.
At around 9:40 am, emergency services were called to the area of Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street where they found the woman unconscious on the sidewalk.
Police say the victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived but was later identified and arrested Sunday night.
A 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
It is believed the two had met previously but were not close acquaintances.
There is no ongoing threat to public safety. The incident remains under investigation.
