WELLINGTON COUNTY – It’s the first day of school for many students in Centre Wellington and Wellington County, and the Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to focus all their attention on the road and put away unnecessary distractions.
Sgt Ed Sanchuk with the West Region OPP Headquarters says to be aware of school buses with their amber and red flashing lights activated.
The fine for passing a school bus with its red lights activated is $490 minimum fine and six demerit points.
OPP are also reminding drivers to slow down in school zones and respect the posted speed limit.
Police say there will be a higher-than-normal volume of students traveling between home and school by numerous methods of transportation.
