FERGUS – It was a busy and rare 3-game weekend for the Fergus Whalers Junior Hockey Club.
On Friday night, the PJHL Whalers opened their 2025 Exhibition season on the road with a hard fought come from behind 4-4 tie with the New Hamburg Firebirds.
Third-period markers from Cohen Robitaille, JJ Paterson, and Joey Martin on a penalty shot with 5 seconds remaining sparked the comeback for the Whalers. The final shots on goal were 46 to 20 in favour of the Whalers as goalie Deklan Jermol was outstanding in net for the Firebirds.
On Saturday night, the Fergus Whalers travelled to Waterloo to take on the New Hamburg Firebirds for the second straight night in PJHL Exhibition hockey action. Liam Lavery and Justin Ewald led the way offensively as the Whalers prevailed by a score of 7-0. Carter Curran and Noah Lundgren shared the goaltending duties for the shutout.
The Fergus Whalers played the Orillia Terriers Sunday afternoon at the CW Sportsplex in PJHL Exhibition hockey action.
With mostly a rookie-filled lineup for the Whalers, the Terriers prevailed by a score of 5-1. Ryan Forwell with the lone marker for the home side.
The Whalers open up the 2025/26 regular season next Saturday on the road against the Mount Forest Patriots; game time is 8:00 pm.
