FERGUS – A well-known and well-loved Fergus landmark is gone.
Blairgowrie Fergusson, the grand figure carved out of a Norway maple stump and gifted to the town as both a fundraiser and beacon of pride, has kept watch over the Breadalbane Inn and all who pass it for nearly 2 decades, a guardian of community spirit and the town’s proud Scottish heritage.
Unfortunately, the years of Canadian weather and rot took hold, deeming this popular relic unsafe.
In a post on social media Monday, owners of the Breadalbane Inn say, ” His absence is striking, leaving behind not just an empty space, but a quiet ache in the heart of town.
Still, Blairgowrie Ferguson is far from forgotten. He lives on in our stories, our photographs, and the pride he stirred in every passerby. More than wood, he was a symbol of art, generosity, and belonging.”
