GUELPH – Seven people, including two youths, were arrested Wednesday night after police recovered approximately $30,000 in drugs and a loaded handgun.
Earlier this month the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into a man believed to be trafficking controlled substances from a local motel. At approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday search warrants were executed at two motel rooms.
During the searches officers located significant quantities of suspected crystal methamphetamine and cocaine, a loaded 9mm handgun with an over-capacity magazine, a quantity of Canadian currency and drug packaging materials.
Three Guelph men – aged 18 to 41 – and two Guelph boys aged 15 and 17 are jointly charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and various weapons offences. The 15-year-old is also charged with possessing stolen property after he was observed during the investigation driving a stolen Honda CRV.
A 38-year-old Guelph man and 27-year-old Guelph woman are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
All were held for bail court Thursday.
“This investigation highlights the value of the significant public safety investments made by our community,” said Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey. “Criminal behaviour that endangers our residents will not be tolerated. Thank you to all involved for their hard work and dedication to ensuring the safety of our community.”
