ELORA – Centre Wellington Fire Rescue held a media briefing today to update the situation of an early morning fire in Elora on the weekend that displaced approximately 12 people.
Centre Wellington Fire Rescue was called shortly before 1 am Saturday morning for a report of a fire at a commercial building on Metcalfe Street in Elora.
An investigation revealed that all rental units in the building had working smoke detectors, except one.
Deputy Fire Chief Jason Benn provided this update:
The fire was contained to one rental unit, operating as an Airbnb accommodation site, and an adjacent supply room. Although smoke and water damage may have occurred in other parts of the building.

The estimated damage of the fire is currently estimated at between $1.1 and $1.2 million, but officials say this is a conservative estimate.
