GUELPH – A pair of motorcyclists were taken off the road for racing through Guelph Tuesday evening.
At around 6:20 pm, Guelph Police observed two motorcycles travelling at an excessive speed who appeared to be racing.
Police followed the pair southbound on the Hanlon Expressway until they stopped at a red light, at which point the officer exited his cruiser and was able to engage the brake lever of one of the motorcycles.
Both motorcycles also had their rear licence plates attached to hinges, allowing the licence plates to be tucked under the bodywork so they would not be visible from the rear.
A 22-year-old man from Cambridge and a 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge are charged with stunt driving and driving with obstructed licence plates. Both had their licences suspended for 30 days and their bikes impounded for 14 days.
A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.
