Press Release – The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital
GUELPH– The Hunter Family Foundation has made a landmark commitment of $1 million to support the creation of a new medical centre at the Guelph campus of Conestoga College, marking a major step forward in The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital’s $10 million fundraising goal.
The new ultrasound suite will be named in recognition of this generous gift. As an extension of Guelph General Hospital, the new community-based medical centre will initially house cutting-edge diagnostic technology, including a second MRI machine, significantly improving access to timely imaging and reducing wait times for patients across Guelph-Wellington.

“Thanks to the Hunter Family Foundation’s extraordinary generosity, we are one step closer to realizing a vision that will expand access to health care for our community,” said Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. “The new centre is an extension of Guelph General Hospital, and only possible because donors like the Hunters and many others have come forward to support the start-up construction and equipment costs.”
Phase one construction of the community-based medical centre is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The centre will open to patients in early 2026, offering expanded services and faster diagnoses for thousands of individuals each year. Later phases of the project will expand services to include outpatient procedures such as endoscopy and orthopedic fracture clinic.
Kelly and Scott Hunter are deeply rooted in Guelph’s history. As a former nurse practitioner, Kelly spent much of her career working at the Guelph Community Health Centre, while Scott is a respected local entrepreneur and business owner. Their foundation’s gift reflects their enduring commitment to health care and their hometown.
The Hunter family shared that, as multi-generational Guelphites, they understand firsthand the vital role Guelph General Hospital plays in the community, and how it has helped family and friends in their greatest times of need.
“Supporting the new community based medical centre is an honour and our way of helping ensure that our family, friends, neighbours and the whole community have access to life-saving diagnostics close to home. We know these changes will aid the hospital in continuing to deliver world class and compassionate care right here in our community.”
