Wellington County is partnering with Grey, Bruce and Dufferin Counties to explore the creation of a unified regional transit network. The collaboration comes through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund and will begin with a study to design and cost out a multi-county system.
The project aims to connect existing services like Wellington’s Ride Well on-demand transit with neighbouring routes, with a key focus on improving travel along the Highway 6 corridor and into border communities.
Ride Well continues to grow, recording over 1,000 rides in both June and July — its highest ridership to date. Two new wheelchair-accessible vehicles were also added this summer, allowing passengers with mobility needs to book trips up to 14 days in advance.
County officials say the study will determine how best to link rural residents across county lines, improving access to jobs, healthcare and services.
