ELORA – Winter lighting is expected to return to Elora’s Green Space, but with a much smaller contribution from Centre Wellington.
Council was asked to fund nearly $12,000 to install and remove the lights for the 2025–26 season after last year’s private donor didn’t return.
Several residents objected to using taxpayer dollars, and councillors raised concerns about the cost.
Ward 4 Councillor Jennifer Adams pushed for a lower cap, and council voted to limit the township’s share to $5,000, taken from the operating budget instead of reserves.
The Elora BIA has stepped in and is working to cover the remaining costs this year and take on full funding in future seasons. A meeting is scheduled next week to finalize their plan.
The display will be smaller than last year, focusing only on the Green Space, with installation set for early November and lights turned on after Remembrance Day.
