NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – A driver has been charged following a collision with a hydro pole.
On October 22, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an abandoned single-vehicle collision with a hydro pole on Sixth Line in Mapleton Township.
As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old from Wallenstein, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Fail to report accident
The accused will appear before the Provincial Offences Court at a later date.
Reporting a Collision:
You are required to report a collision to police as per the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario if the collision involves injury or death, or where the combined vehicle damage apparently exceeds $5,000.00 or where there is damage to private, municipal or highway property. You must report the collision to the police as soon as possible. Whether or not you are at fault for the collision does not change your obligation to file a collision report. The collision must be reported by representatives of all involved vehicles.
What to do if you are involved in a collision:
- If it can be done safely, move all vehicles off the traveled portion of the road
- If anyone involved is injured and/or you cannot safely move the vehicles from the travel lane, call 911 immediately
- If you suspect any criminality (impaired driving, stolen vehicle), call 911 immediately
- Ontario law requires that all drivers involved in a collision MUST surrender their driver’s licence information, vehicle information and insurance information to the other drivers involved
- If possible, and safe to do so, photograph or otherwise record the area, the other vehicles involved, drivers involved and all the documentation you were provided
- If the combined damage to all vehicles appears to be less than $5000.00, a report is not required by legislation
You can report a minor collision that has happened within Wellington County to any of our three Collision Reporting Centres, if the collision did not involve:
- death or any injuries that require transport to a hospital
- a driver that failed to remain at the scene
- any vehicle carrying dangerous goods
- any suspected criminal activity (impaired driver, stolen vehicle)
- any driver that refuses to cooperate with the required exchange of information
- any municipal, provincial or federal vehicle
- damage to the highway property or private property
- a cyclist or pedestrian
