CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington voters will cast their ballots online or by phone in the 2026 municipal election.
Council approved the voting method at a meeting yesterday morning.
Municipal clerk Kerri O’Kane said internet and telephone voting remain the best options, even though most other Wellington County municipalities plan to use vote-by-mail.
In the 2018 and 2022 elections, O’Kane says the Township of Centre Wellington successfully utilized internet and telephone voting as the sole means of casting a ballot, with a 39.7% voter turnout.
For those who prefer to vote in person, voter help centres will be set up to assist residents who need help casting their ballots electronically.
Staff also plan to improve accessibility and efficiency with more touchscreen devices, clearer voter instructions, and barcode scanners.
Staff say with $97,548 left in the election reserve at the end of 2025, an additional $22,452 will be needed to reach the planned $120,000 budget.
A vote-by-mail system would cost about $161,000.
