GUELPH – As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, a local family has made a generous donation to the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital.
The Barzotti family’s $1 million donation will help expand access to breast cancer screening for the Guelph and Wellington County area, as construction nears completion for the Community-based medical centre on Conestoga College’s Guelph campus.
The medical centre will feature a designated Breast Assessment Clinic, offering full-service care for patients from mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and more.
For the Barzottis, this donation carries a special meaning.
Bruna Barzotti says ”The mammography department – and its ability to diagnose cancer in its early stages holds a special place for me and my family, due to my previous battle with breast cancer.”
The demand for mammography procedures at Guelph General Hospital is substantially higher than for other imaging modalities. So the additional mammogram capacity at the medical centre comes at a great time to meet these growing needs.
For a limited time, donations will be matched by the FDC Foundation. Those wishing to donate can do so online at gghfoundation.ca
