ABOYNE – A new Peace Pole has been installed at Wellington Place in Centre Wellington, marking the first of its kind in Wellington County.
The wooden monument, standing near the Bow String Bridge on the Museum Trail, bears the inscription “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in both English and French.
The project was led by the Rotary 7080-E Club with support from the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery and local Legion branches. The post was donated by Dixon’s Home Hardware, engraved locally, and installed by the County’s Museum and Archives team.
Barb Evoy, founder of the Canadian chapter of the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery, says she was inspired to bring to Wellington County after installing a similar pole in Calgary earlier this year.
The Wellington Place Peace Pole is part of a Canada-wide Rotary initiative promoting peace, inclusivity, and respect for all cultures.
