WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is hosting a series of Fraud Prevention Townhalls as part of our ongoing Fraud Response Strategy.
This initiative reflects our commitment to taking a proactive stance against fraud by equipping community members and local businesses with the knowledge they need to stay safe. Attendees will learn about common scams, emerging fraud trends, and practical strategies to protect themselves and their families.
These free sessions will feature presentations from experienced OPP officers and detectives across multiple units. They will share valuable insights, real-world examples, and answer your questions in an open, informative setting.

Business & Retail Fraud Townhall

Location: The Fergus OPP Detachment Boardroom – 371 Charles Allan Way, Fergus
Description: This session is reserved for local business representatives and employees seeking to safeguard their operations from scams. Attendees will learn how to identify common fraud tactics and recognize warning signs in their customers, such as unsuspecting victims attempting to purchase an abundance of gift cards under suspicious circumstances.

Cryptocurrency Fraud Townhall
Date: November 20th, 2025
Time: 5:00PM-7:00PM
Location: The Fergus OPP Detachment Boardroom – 371 Charles Allan Way, Fergus
Description: This session will focus on the rise of cryptocurrency-related scams and how fraudsters exploit digital currencies to target victims. Learn how to identify fraudulent investment offers, phishing schemes, as well as how to protect your crypto wallets and personal information. Real-world examples and local trends will also be discussed.
