Beloved children’s author, and Guelph resident, Robert Munsch has donated his personal archives to the Guelph Public Library, giving readers and researchers a rare look into his creative world.
The collection includes original story drafts, publisher notes, fan letters, photos, and artifacts from Munsch’s 40-year career and more than 75 published picture books, including classics like The Paper Bag Princess and Love You Forever.
Munsch’s archives will be preserved and displayed at Guelph’s new Central Library, set to open in 2027. His family says the donation honors their deep connection to the library, where weekly visits once inspired a lifelong love of reading.
Library officials call the gift a major addition to Guelph’s cultural history — one that celebrates storytelling, creativity, and the author who helped generations of children fall in love with books.
