NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – A commercial motor vehicle has been charged with several offences following an inspection in Fergus.
On November 13, 2025, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team was conducting proactive traffic enforcement within Wellington County and initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on Second Line in Fergus.
As a result of their inspection of the CMV, a Guelph business, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Fail to ensure performance standards are met
- Overweight vehicle – violate permit
- Improper tires – commercial motor vehicle
- Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly
- Fail to ensure daily inspection report is accurately completed
Additionally, the business received the following warnings:
- Improper tires – commercial motor vehicle
- Operate unsafe combination of vehicles – commercial motor vehicle
- Permit operation of vehicle – Fail to display inspection sticker or proof
The driver of the CMV was also given a warning:
- Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in drawn vehicle
The accused business is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court – Guelph on a later date.
Operating a CMV with improper equipment or major defects can be extremely dangerous to everyone out on the road. We all play a role in keeping our roadways safe. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads.
