A new survey of more than 2,200 older adults in Guelph and Wellington County is shining a spotlight on the challenges and opportunities facing the region’s aging population. Conducted by the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association, the study explored issues ranging from transportation and housing to social participation and volunteerism.
Results show many seniors feel disconnected from their community, citing difficulty making friends, health concerns, and transportation barriers. Affordability is also a concern, with respondents on fixed incomes saying they cannot afford current programs. Digital access remains uneven, reinforcing the need for in‑person registration options.
Libraries and word of mouth were identified as effective ways to share information, while social media use remains limited. Leaders say the findings will guide future planning and support recognition of Guelph and Wellington as an Age‑Friendly Community under World Health Organization guidelines.
