MEDIA RELEASE CRIME STOPPERS GUELPH WELLINGTON
At approximately 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 14th 2025, a Rockwood resident fell victim to a “grandparent scam” and was defrauded of $5,000.
The victim was contacted by phone by someone pretending to be their son stating they been arrested and were in police custody. A second person joined in on the call claiming to be a lawyer, who advised the victim a “cash bond” was required for his son’s release. The suspect collected the money from the victim at the victim’s home, prior to the victim realizing they had been scammed.
The suspect is described as male, brown skin, who identified themself as “Ahmed”. The vehicle they were driving is described as an older model, white Honda CRV.
