NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Police responded to several incidents of intimate partner violence within Wellington County over New Year’s Eve.
On December 31, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), alongside Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence in Fergus.
As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault with a weapon – spousal
- Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.
Additionally, on December 31, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP responded to another report of a disturbance at a residence in Mount Forest.
As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old from Mount Forest, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault – spousal
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
Further, on January 1, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence in Erin.
As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old from Erin, is charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault – spousal
- Assault causing bodily harm – spousal
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victim(s).
