Wellington County is preparing to expand a program aimed at helping homeowners reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The Home Energy Efficiency Transition (HEET) program was discussed at the County’s Planning Committee meeting as part of the 2026 Planning Department budget. The program is designed to support energy-efficiency upgrades in homes, such as insulation and heating improvements, to reduce overall energy consumption
County staff say the initiative is expected to be fully funded through grants from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, meaning it is not anticipated to have any impact on the tax levy. However, changes to the federal funding application process have delayed the program’s rollout by about a year from earlier projections
Despite the delay, officials say the program remains a key part of the County’s long-term climate strategy, with the dual goal of cutting emissions and helping residents manage rising energy costs. Further details on eligibility and participation are expected once funding agreements are finalized.
