FERGUS – The province has announced it is investing just over $1 million to help Centre Wellington resurface two stretches of road.
The first is Tower Street South from McQueen Boulevard to Union Street, and the second is Bridge Street from Union Street to Queen Street in Fergus.
The funding is being delivered through the 2026-27 Connecting Links program, which the government says helps maintain vital roads and bridges that connect people to good jobs, support the movement of goods, and drive economic growth in rural and northern communities.
“As the community grows, residents in Centre Wellington deserve access to safe, reliable transportation infrastructure – and that’s what our government is delivering,” said Joseph Racinsky, MPP for Wellington-Halton Hills, in a press release. “Through the Connecting Links program, we’re keeping communities moving across the province as we continue our work to protect Ontario.”
A connecting link is a designated municipal road or bridge that connects two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to an international border crossing.
This year, the province announced it is investing over $46 million in 21 projects to repair roads and bridges in 20 municipalities across the province.
“This provincial investment is great news for Centre Wellington,” said Mayor Shawn Watters in the press release. “As Centre Wellington continues to grow, investing in reliable transportation infrastructure is critical. This funding helps ensure our roads remain safe and efficient for residents, businesses, and emergency services, while supporting the long-term sustainability of our infrastructure. We appreciate the Province of Ontario’s support through the Connecting Links program, which allows us to move forward with important road improvements while easing pressure on local taxpayers.”
