NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – A North York driver is charged following a traffic stop in Guelph.
On February 24, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit conducted a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on Inverness Drive in Guelph.
As a result of the investigation, a 74-year-old from North York, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Defective braking system
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Improper tires
- Drive – handheld communication device
- Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt
- Operate vehicle – fail to display inspection sticker or proof
- No horn – motor vehicle
- Improper muffler – motor vehicle
- No directional signals
- Overweight vehicle – violate permit kg
The accused faces approximately $1,900 worth of fines, received three additional warnings and licence plates were seized.
Operating a CMV with improper equipment or major defects can be extremely dangerous to everyone out on the road. We all play a role in keeping our roadways safe. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads.
