CENTRE WELLINGTON – A proposed mixed-use development in Fergus is facing opposition as it moves through the planning process at Centre Wellington Council.
Dunpar Homes is seeking approval to build 192 cluster townhomes and 11 commercial units at 650 Victoria Terrace. The 4.8-hectare site is currently designated industrial and would require official plan and zoning amendments to permit residential mixed-use development.
Jonathan Velasco, a manager at Nexans Canada across the street, questioned the project’s noise study at a public meeting on Wednesday, saying measurements were taken when the plant was operating below typical levels.
Local resident Bernice Robinet also voiced concerns, noting the existing business on the property employs about 35 people and warning the project could impact jobs and Fergus’ small-town character.
No decision was made. Township staff are reviewing technical studies and public comments and will present a recommendation in a future report.
