FERGUS – After approximately 14 years, the New to You Fergus thrift shop is about to get a new structure, and that work kicked-off on Friday, March 6 with a shovels-in-the-ground ceremony at their location at 950 St. David Street North, Fergus.
New to You Fergus is a not-for-profit thrift store operated by the Groves Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA). Donald Kidd, president of GHVA explains the work about to begin.
Kidd explains the important purpose of the New To You Fergus store.
Kidd notes that as the community grows, so too has the need more space and convenience within the thrift store.
The new store will allow for a greater capacity to display and house the donated merchandise, improving the look and feel of the store and enhancing the customer experience. The new donation drive-through are will also create a better donation workflow for staff and donors alike.

Construction is being done by Demikon Construction Limited, of Guelph. The project is estimated to take approximately one year. Kidd explains the two phases of the project.
With any construction project, delays and temporary closures may result, and Kidd explains that GHVA will have a brief closure as the store transitions from old to new.
Kidd believes that the community that has long supported the New to You Fergus thrift store will be patient through the construction and continue to support the work of GHVA to benefit the local hospital.
After nearly 14 years at this location, Kidd explains that making the renovations to the existing location, instead of moving to another part of town was the best decision.
Kidd and his fellow GHVA volunteers are looking forward to the construction process and even more importantly to the completed product for their team, their customers and the goal to support Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
