PRESS RELEASE: Wellington County OPP, March 16, 2026.
CENTRE WELLINGTON – A youth is charged following an incident in Fergus.
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an address in Fergus for an unrelated matter, during which an individual became aggressive towards officers.
As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with:
- Assault peace officer – cause bodily harm
- Assault with intent to resist arrest (four counts)
The officer sustained minor injuries and attended a local hospital for assessment.
The accused, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.
