Press Release: Town of Erin, March 17, 2026.
ERIN—Town of Erin Council has voted to grant the Upper Credit Humane Society (UCHS) an additional two-year lease on the property at 5383
Trafalgar Rd., expiring in 2030. Council has directed staff to carry out the extension pending the execution of a lease agreement for 2028-2030, to the satisfaction of Town of Erin staff and Council.
“We understand the circumstances of the Upper Credit Humane Society and appreciate the commitment both board members and staff have shown to
moving forward,” said Erin Mayor Michael Dehn.
The Town of Erin is looking forward to continuing its collaboration with the UCHS and are mutually committed to a transparent partnership throughout the process.
“The Town of Erin has a long history of working with the Upper Credit Humane Society and Council is optimistic about this continued partnership,”
added Mayor Dehn. “We are happy to work with them to develop a concrete plan, while helping them find their forever home.”
The Town of Erin’s lease agreement will also require UCHS to make biannual reports to Council on progress to establish a new location.
The agreement is also incumbent on a legal review, including a market value assessment.
On March 12, Susan Thomsen, UCHS Board Chair gave a delegation to Council alongside Vice Chair Moe Lalani.
Thomsen and Lalani spoke about recent changes within the UCHS that have strengthened its leadership and financial position, demonstrating a
commitment to work with the Town to find a solution.
She thanked Town staff for their open-mindedness and assistance in helping try to find a new space.
“We’re not here to preserve the status quo,” she said. “We’re here to move things forward.”
