NEWS RELEASE DUFFERIN COUNTY OPP
(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged an Erin resident with impaired operation-related offences following a traffic complaint.
On March 29, 2026, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of County Road 16 in the Township of Amaranth. While patrolling for the suspect vehicle, officers received a second call regarding a disturbance at a local dining establishment on Broadway in the Town of Orangeville.
Officers attended the scene and determined the individual involved in the disturbance was the same person connected to the earlier traffic complaint. After speaking with the female, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old resident of Erin, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
· Assault
· Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The Dufferin OPP reminds motorists that alcohol and speed are a deadly combination. Plan ahead if you are consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, taxi, rideshare, public transit, or arrange to stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair your judgment and reaction time. In a split second, poor decisions can result in tragedy.
