CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington council has given the green light to upgrade the township’s emergency preparedness supplies after receiving funding support from the province.
During Monday’s meeting, council approved the purchase of new emergency shelter equipment for the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex and the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.
The supplies will include cots, blankets, hygiene kits, and device charging stations
Township staff says the new equipment will strengthen Centre Wellington’s ability to open and operate an emergency shelter if needed, adding that much of the current inventory is outdated, limited, or nearing the end of its usable life.
The funding will also allow the Centre Wellington Fire Department to purchase a drone, which staff say will help improve emergency response, particularly during incidents in remote locations or situations where access may be limited by weather or road conditions.
The total cost for the equipment and drone is $32,637, which will be covered through the province’s Community Emergency Preparedness Grant.
