ERIN — Last night, Centre 2000 was awash with smiles as the Town of Erin celebrated its 2026 Shamrock Award winners.
Friends and family of some of Erin’s most talented, passionate and dedicated community volunteers came out to support and commemorate their achievements.
“The Shamrock Awards give us a glimpse into what makes Erin so special — from the quiet dedication of our volunteers, to the creativity in our arts community, the energy of our young leaders, the strength of our local businesses, and the passion behind those supporting health, sport, and our environment,” said Rob Adams, Town of Erin CAO. “It’s clear that there is no shortage of heart in this community.”
• The 2026 Citizen of the Year is longtime Erin firefighter Rick Scott, who retired from his position as Deputy Fire Chief in December after 38 years with Erin Fire and Emergency Services. Scott has played a vital role in mentoring and guiding generations of firefighters, making a lasting impact on not only the department, but the community.
• Erin Legion President Patty Booth received the Community Volunteer Award, recognizing her commitment to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 442, and dedicated service since 1999.
• Deb Flear was also bestowed a Community Volunteer Award for her work with the Century Church Theatre, East Wellington Community Services, Rotary Club of Erin and more.
• The Erin Agricultural Society’s 175th Anniversary Committee was also recognized with a Community Volunteer Award for their outstanding work organizing a series of events leading up to the Fall Fair last year.
• Erin’s 2026 Business of the Year is the Busholme — a locally owned staple of the community, providing award-winning entertainment and top-notch fare.
• Susan Powell, President of Tree Trust’s Erin chapter won the Environmental Stewardship Award, honouring her work as an original member of the Town of Erin Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee and now proud protector of local trees.
• Abigail Cormack, Erin’s Young Changemaker Award recipient, was honoured for supporting a vast array of local organizations and initiatives, including the annual Terry Fox Run, the Legion, Rotary Club and Erin Agricultural Society.
• Local artist Jennifer McKinnon is the Creative Excellence Award Recipient for her dedication and leadership in the local art community. McKinnon was instrumental in turning a damaged fence into a colourful public art display along Main Street in Erin Village in conjunction with Over Here Community Arts Adventure.
• The Community Health and Sports Impact Award went to the Erin-Hillsburgh Minor Hockey U18BB Team, who are the Ontario Minor Hockey Champions for the third year in a row. This team not only exemplifies dedication and athletic skill but honours a Town that is truly passionate about Canada’s national sport.
“The Town of Erin extends its deep gratitude to all community volunteers, residents, groups and teams who dedicate their time to the community,” said Erin Mayor Michael Dehn. “Life is busy, and it’s often hard to take the time to volunteer. It doesn’t go unnoticed — you are part of the fabric of Erin, and your work helps make this Town a truly remarkable place to live.”
