FERGUS – In local PJHL playoff hockey action, the Fergus Whalers have advanced to the Schmalz Cup Finals for the first time in team history.
Saturday night, the team travelled to Frankford for game 4 of the best-of-seven semi-final series, leading the Huskies two games to one.
Joey Martin, Ryan Forwell, Jake Lessor, and Liam Eveleigh led the Whaler attack, securing a 5 to 3 Fergus victory.
Back home on Sunday, the Whalers wrapped up the series four games to one with a 3 to 1 victory in front of over 1,000 fans at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
Andrew McClure was the game’s top performer with two goals for the Whalers, with goaltender Noah Lundgren being solid again in the net for Fergus.
The Whalers now await the winner of the Tavistock/Lakeshore series to determine their opponent in the Schmalz Cup Finals.
