FERGUS – In local PJHL playoff hockey action in the quest for the Schmalz Cup, the Fergus Whalers and the Tavistock Braves began their best-of-seven final series on the weekend.
On Saturday night in Tavistock, the two teams went back and forth with the game needing overtime to decide a winner, with Joey Martin’s first-minute marker being the game decider for the Whalers in a 2- 1 win.
Over 700 fans witnessed the action in a packed Tavistock Recreation Centre.
Back home in Fergus, Sunday evening, Tavistock evened the series at a game apiece with overtime needed again in a 3 to 2 road victory for the Braves.
A crowd of over 1200 onlookers packed the Sportsplex and were treated to a spirited battle between the two teams.
Game 3 is set for this Wednesday night at 7:30 back in Tavistock, and Game 4 is back at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex this Friday with puck drop set for 8:30 pm.
