Press Release: Wellington County, May 8, 2026.
ABOYNE – Wellington County marked a significant milestone today as Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home celebrated its 20th anniversary, bringing together residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners to honour two decades of compassionate care.
Wellington Terrace opened its doors in 2006, built to set a new standard in community-rooted, modern long-term care. In a remarkable feat of coordination, 172 residents relocated from Elora to the new facility in just three days, a transition made possible by the dedication of staff and the support of families.
Through healthcare challenges, increasing complexity of care, and extreme challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, the Terrace has adapted, evolved, and never lost its heart. Over the past two decades, Wellington Terrace has earned numerous accolades, including Service Awards for Geriatric Excellence (SAGE Awards), leadership awards, employer recognition, AdvantAGE Awards, and Innovation and Excellence Awards, to name a few.
The home has also recently distinguished itself through its ‘Living Classroom’, a training model designed to educate and prepare the next generation of health care students by immersing them directly in the operations of long-term care and retirement homes.
As Wellington Terrace looks ahead to its next 20 years, County leaders and staff thanked the community, including volunteers, local businesses and organizations, for their ongoing support and contributions to enrich the lives of residents. They also expressed confidence in the home’s
continued growth and its enduring commitment to dignity, innovation, and person-centered care.
