NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TWP, ON) – OPP Investigating incident at Guelph Lake Conservation Area.
On May 14, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a weapons call at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area, involving a camper being observed with an alleged firearm.
As a response, and out of an abundance of caution, nearby campers and guests were evacuated out of the immediate area, and police began their investigation, alongside Guelph Lake Conservation Staff.
A short time later, it was determined that the camper in question had a pellet gun and was using it to shoot pop cans on their campsite. The camper was also found to be intoxicated and was then trespassed from the property as a result of an alcohol ban on the premises.
There were no reported injuries, and the camper was cooperative with police.
The Wellington County OPP would like to thank the public for their patience and assistance during this investigation.
The Wellington County OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122.
